Radar was originally not meant to be a fully fledged map, designed only to be a test for a large open combat map in the Source engine. Over the years the map has grown in size as techniques have been perfected and new optimisation skills learnt. It is now one of the most popular maps amongst the Ham and Jam testers as it is a true attack/defend map which requires teamwork to successfully defend. Inconsistent teamwork on the defending side makes the map a challenge to win for the defenders as there are multiple paths to all the objects, some requiring dedicated "off-piste" defence positions to nullify any threat. The timelimit for the map is 15 minutes and with good teamwork it is easily possible to defend for that time. With poor teamwork the map's record stands at 2:50 for a successful assault, borderline rout! The design of the map revolves around a loose figure of eight pattern when viewed from above. I feel this gives the maximum amount of combat encounters along with decent routes away from combat areas to recover and slow down the pace.
